Fake COVID test websites that look like the real thing are proliferating on the web, BBB says.
The Better Business Bureau, which protects consumers against scams have issued an announcement recently- there are websites that trick people into believing they’re real COVID testing platforms and run away with their money.
As with other scam websites, these online platforms will try to obtain people’s information by posing as if they’re official COVID-19 test sites. Some might have a charge for at-home test kits, which indicates that they’re fake. Data obtained from these sites are usually sold to unscrupulous individuals or used to assume the visitor’s identity.
The Better Business Bureau has several tips to offer- check the website thoroughly for any indication that it could be fake. Telltale signs include unfamiliar names in the site’s URL or any misspelled words on the front page.
